Objective : The course is designed to enable the participants to understand and know the various aspects of fragrance & Flavour and essential oil industry including cultivation of aromatic plants and and information on policies, finance and management aspects for initiating small business and to make aware with the recent technological development, policy programme, management aspects including material and financial management & regulatory implication, procedure & practical demonstration aromatic crops/various items relating to fragrance & Flavour

1. Indian and world scenario of Essential Oils
2. Cultivation practices of following crops:
     Rose, Matricaria, Geranium, Lavender, Patchouli, Japanesemint, Peppermint, Spearmint, Basil,
     Citronella, Vetiver, Palmrosa and Lemongrass
3. Distillation of aromatic crops by field distillation.
4. Principles, processing and techniques of essential oils.
5. Pilot scale demonstration on steam distillation
6. Basics of fractional distillation as applied to essential oils like lemongrass, citronella, palmarosa
    Practical demonstration of fractional distillation-

7. Value addition in essential oils like Citronella, Lemongrass, Mint, Basil etc.

8. Fundamentals of processing of aroma chemicals.
    Practical demonstration of processing of -

10. Quality assessment of essential oils concerning pysico-chemical & instrumental analysis.
11. Classification and differentiation of odours
12. Familiarization with fragrant raw materials.
13. Memorization of odours.
14. Creation of fragrances and flavours

15. Application of fragrances in Agarbatti, Soap, Cream, Talcum Powder etc.
16. Application of flavours in soft drink, tooth powder, jam, ketchup etc..
17. Evaluation of fragrance / flavours so created.
18. Policies of Govt. of India for small scale industries.
19. Various financial institutions engaged in financing the small scale sector like Schedule Bank,
      State Financial Corporation, SIDBI, NABARD etc..
20. Management aspects including financial and material management of small scale sector and perfumery industries.
21. Export policies and procedures for the essential oils and allied items.
22. Food protection act and acts Governing & Application in Flavour items (FEMA).
23. Regulatory aspects related to fragrance and its raw materials (IFRA)
24. Practical demonstration on various items.
25. Field visits of essential oils and perfumery industries.
